Bringing down the old house, building a new one
01.06.2008
Rishon le-Tzion, one of Israel’s four largest cities, is the leader in the realization of «Pinui-Binui” (eviction-construction) projects. The first one will be carried out in the Ze’ev neighborhood in the East of the city. According to the project, 70 old residence units are to be demolished and 4 22-level buildings with 330 apartments in each are to be built instead on the 10-dunam area. The cost of the new project is estimated at $50 million, and the profit from selling the apartments should be $100 million. 90% of the residents have already agreed to the demolition of their houses.
Another such project will take place on Poznanski St. in the Ramat Eliyahu neighborhood in the Eastern part of the city, near Road No. 4. 58 families are to be evicted and 300 residence units are to be built. The project has already been approved. Half of the residents have given their written approval.
1402 residence units, which will be inhabited in a year and a half, are to be built as part of a project called “The Artists’ Quarter». Another 300 should be built around Alkalai St., yet the residents have not yet given their written approval of the project.
